Ages 4-6

For students ages 4-6, I use the Music for Little Mozarts series published by Alfred during their 30 minute lessons. This series includes many materials, the ones we primarily use in class being:
-a lesson book
-a workbook
-little stuffed animals of famous composers Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear to bring the series and music to life (who help us find keys on the piano, share stories, and discover musical concepts)

Class Structure

Classes at this level are 30 minutes. Here is the general breakdown of class:
  • 10 min: go over assigned songs from the previous week
  • 5 min: play a game to learn a new concept or review a previous one
  • 10 min: go over new songs for the coming week
  • 5 min: do a page or two in their "fun book" which has write-in activities, ear training, matching, and more

Songs

We generally work on two songs from the book a week. Occasionally we will choose a movie or pop song from the series' supplemental books or one of the character solos. I can also arrange just about any song a student requests for their level.
