Ages 4-5

Picture
For students ages 4-5, I use the Tales of a Musical Adventure series by Irina Gorin. Written in the form of a chapter book, this series uses a fairy tale setting and characters to introduce and expand musical concepts. Young learners will join with Fairy Musicalina, King Meter, Princess Melody, and others as we follow the story and learn to play fun, expressive pieces.

Class Structure

Classes at this level are 45 minutes. During that time we work out of the following books:
  • Lesson book: expressive pieces written in a fairy tale, chapter book format
  • Activity book: coloring and tracing pages to practice what we learn in the lesson book
  • Duet, solo, and etude books: supplementary books to review and refine musical expression and technique

Supplemental Props

We use fun props in class to develop good technique and touch such as butterfly, monkey, and even noise putty. Our animal friends helps us learn the notes. Learning piano is a hands-on journey!

Companion App

The lesson book assignments for Tales of a Musical Journey are available in the companion app we use in the studio, Piano Maestro. This app checks the students' notes and rhythm and by practicing on it they earn stars, ranks, and tickets in the monthly practice drawing.
